See more about this pub on WhatPub, CAMRA's national pub guide.

This historic old building is close to Harwich Quay in the old town and has been trading as an inn since 1859. The building itself is much older and was once occupied by the Twitt family, with Sarah Twitt being the first wife of Christopher Jones who lived just across the road and is famous for guiding the Pilgrim Fathers to America in his ship the Mayflower. Inside the pub is jam-packed with character and has a great atmosphere with customers from all walks of life. There is always a great selection of real ale with Adnams beers making regular appearances as well as those from the nearby Harwich Town Brewery. The Alma was Tendring CAMRA Pub of the Year 2016 and Cider Pub of the Year in 2013 and 2014. The pub is very popular for its food which is served from midday to 10pm every day with excellent seafood, game, steaks and homemade sausages. To immerse yourself in the full inn experience you can now stay at the Alma in one of their six fabulous rooms - each cleverly slotted into the building and quirkily themed and named according to characters from the pub's history. All-in-all a perfect base for sea, rail or road travellers exploring the area or just refuelling on a day trip.
