There are several bars on separate levels with a large enclosed courtyard to the side. It is popular for Sports TV and live music and usually busy at weekends. Opening hours may be extended for Ipswich Town home games and other sports events and may otherwise vary. Most of the building dates from the late 18th/early 19th century, though some parts are older. The pub was greatly extended in early 2009. The company also owns the adjoining Briarbank Brewery buiding (a former bank bank building on Fore Street) [not currently brewing]. Card only payments i.e. no cash is taken at the bar.
