Named after the year that Stowmarket Town Football Club was founded, in 1883. The manager, Rob (and his family) used to run the nearby Chestnut Horse in Great Finborough, and started The 1883 in June 2025, transforming it from a match-day bar into a proper pub. Good quality, locally-sourced food and real ales are served all week, excluding Mondays. A function room for events is separate from the bar area. All welcome, membership is not required. The building also serves as the Stowmarket Community Sports and Social Club CIC.
