An imposing, 180 year old building set at a fork in the road that also houses the village war memorial. Free of tie since 2017. One handpump offers an Adnam's beer while the other three offer changing beers from small, often local, breweries. Food is very much at the heart of its operation. Its menu features classic pub dishes and traditional Italian pizzas, cooked in a wood-fired oven, available Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday to Sunday evenings, as well as hearty Sunday roasts. Of the two rooms, the lower one is a restaurant or function room, it also has a fine old fireplace. The upper room has a small drinking area at one end and tables set for food at the other. Rustic timbered flooring throughout and the old fireplace, create a warm and inviting atmosphere.. The attractive decking, patio and grassed rear garden is accessed through the lower room. Beer and cider festival with live music in the early summer. Dog friendly. The Chequers' former chef became its licensee in November 2024.
