See more about this pub on WhatPub, CAMRA's national pub guide.

Large, elegant, country pub that retains some original features, with a large inglenook fireplace to add to the obligatory exposed wooden beams. Attractive garden and patio area to the rear. Purchased by a local couple in early 2016, it was closed for extensive works for over a year, reopening in November 2017 as a gastropub with a B&B guesthouse. As well as a large dining area, it retains a bar and seating area for those who just wish to drink and also has a cosy library room. The pub is named after burial mounds dating back to Roman Times. There were seven but the coming of the railway line saw this reduced to three. The largest remaining is 45 feet high.
