Recently re-opened as a community owned pub. It is a traditional country pub serving cask ales, wines and home cooked meals. Built in the 14th century, and located in the Essex countryside, the pub is famous for its connections with two iconic painters John Constable and Thomas Gainsborough, giving it the nickname “The Painters’ Pub”. There is parking to the side and rear, outside seating is available in the Pub Garden, and at the front overlooking the Stour Valley.
