The main bar retains a splendid barrel-shaped lathe and plaster ceiling, tiled floor and two small settles, a brick faced open fire, and wooden panelling with dado railing throughout. There are excellent bar and lunch menus with changeable specials available in here, and at busy times, the conservatory, which has been recently refurbished and has a comfortable sitting area. There is no longer a pool table. The old lounge and restaurant is now fully an eating area with a separate extensive menu. All food is prepared and cooked by the landlord using mainly locally sourced ingredients. Fish and chips nights every Friday evening between 5 p.m. and 6.45 p.m. Eat in or take away. The bar opens at 5 p.m. that evening. After 7 p.m. it reverts to the normal restaurant and bar menus. Beer is served on gravity from a wooden back-bar. Ask about the “coffin-hatch” in the main eating area. Dogs are welcome in the main bar and conservatory as long as they are on a lead. There is a very well tended garden which is popular in the summer months. The Crown is one of the very few Suffolk pubs where you can still see poker dice played on the counter and hear genuine High Suffolk Plain accents!
